Hello!

Welcome to Okmulgee Primary and Dunbar Elementary School’s Counseling Web Page!!

“It’s Your Choice…Make It a Good One!”

Hello Okmulgee Primary and Dunbar Elementary students and parents.  I am Ms. Little, the School Counselor.  I am a graduate of Okmulgee High School with the awesome Class of 1980.  My Bulldog Pride runs deep!!!!

I furthered my education at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater and received my B.S. Degree in Biology at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.  I earned a M.S. in School Counseling from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah.  I am a National Board Certified Educator in Adolescence Science.  In addition, I am certified in Biology, Chemistry, School Counseling and Elementary Principal.

The 2017-2018 school year will be my 5th year as the counselor and my 24th year with the Okmulgee Public School System.  I have taught 6th and 8th grade Science for 19 years at Okmulgee Middle School; therefore, I am presently working with children of my former students.  I am so blessed to get to do this job!

Today’s children will need basic skills (reading, math, writing, etc.); Interpersonal skills (ability to get along with others); and communication skills (oral as well as written).  As the counselor, my goal is:

  • to teach students that choices have consequences
  • to help students develop self-discipline
  • to teach students to learn from one’s mistakes so they are not repeated
  • not to administer punishment or discipline, but work on changing the behavior

In order to reach my goals, I will provide individual counseling, small group counseling and classroom guidance lessons for Pre-K through 8th grade.  Small group counseling helps students learn to explore with others their attitudes, ideas, feelings, and how these are related to their behaviors.  It is an effective intervention because, no matter what the reason for forming the group, it allows students to listen to others and gives the counselor insight into student interactions.
